As our new services between Australia and Doha take flight, some of our crew are also embarking on an exciting journey – a secondment with Qatar Airways. This unique opportunity is part of our strategic partnership, which includes 28 new weekly flights between Australia and Doha operated by Virgin Australia under a wet lease agreement with Qatar Airways. It’s with pride that Virgin Australia has today launched a new Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) at our annual NAIDOC Week breakfast, in Brisbane. A special thank you to Aaron Ruska and the Nunukul Yuggera Dance Company for a wonderful Welcome to Country and cultural dance. Since our first Innovate RAP in 2022, we have deepened our commitment to cultural learning, community engagement, and creating a respectful and inclusive workplace. Our new Innovate RAP is a formal commitment to meaningful, practical actions that advance reconciliation within our organisation and communities. This RAP features the artwork ‘Cultural Connections’ created for us by Jamara Nye, a proud Walbunja-Yuin woman with ties to the Yawalarry mob and Djirringanj mob, connecting her to both ocean and desert Country. The artwork represents the deep connections between people, Country, and culture - connections that Virgin Australia helps bring to life through every flight. We’re proud to have achieved the best monthly on-time result for departure performance, and the highest completion rate out of the major Australian airlines again in May, according to results released today by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE). A new era of international travel has officially taken off! Today, Virgin Australia celebrated the commencement of its inaugural Sydney–Doha service, marking our return to long-haul international flying and unlocking seamless, one-stop access to more than 170 global destinations. This partnership with Qatar Airways creates new options for travellers, and is expected to generate jobs and deliver a projected $3 billion economic uplift for Australia over the next five years. New Virgin Australia routes are on the way, with Brisbane and Perth launching later this month for Europe's peak summer season, and Melbourne arriving in December just in time for a white Christmas and skiing season. After two successful trials, Virgin Australia are excited to announce the long-term partnership for the Try Before You Fly program with Adelaide Airport Limited, supported recently by the SA Government, What Ability and See Differently with the Royal Society for the Blind. Celebrating this significant milestone in the program, another group of participants were welcomed to familiarise themselves with the airport and boarding process, making travel more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Say hello to Virgo! During a recent visit to See Differently with the Royal Society for the Blind, the Ability Network had the wonderful opportunity to tour their headquarters and meet Virgo, who was named through a vote by Virgin Australia staff from across the network. We are excited to watch Virgo and her training litter as they continue to utilise our aircraft in their training program, preparing them for their future roles as full-time service dogs.
